Meanwhile, up North...

Ever since the first time I went skiing in Poland early 2014, I have been yearning to get some more time on the slopes. And I did just that over the weekend! It was a pretty random idea and I seemed to have managed to convince these three other goonies to come with me. It sure made braving the slushy snow and freezing Scottish temperatures a little bit easier!
One thing I have learnt when travelling is that you can plan all you want, but when Mother Nature has other plans for you, thats the one thing you probably cannot change. So initially I flew over to Aberdeen on the evening flight and met up with the husband and wife pair (Qasim and Nawal) as they had taken the day off and left on the morning flight. Nawal's brother, Nabil was the Aberdonian that we were staying with and he was a pretty awesome host! We were slightly unlucky as we were all hyped up to go skiing the next day.. Well I was so hyped I woke up the earliest and trotted around the house at 5am whispering, "wake up.. wakey wakeyyyyyy! Rise and shineeeee sleeping beauties!" and all I got was a large pillow thrown in my face! haha! Imagine the disappointment I got though when we were all packed in the car in ski gear and packed lamb rendang ready to go, and we found out that all ski centres were closed due to a massive snow blizzard and roads access was a no-no.

So we ended up having to explore Aberdeen and Stonehaven with the weather being slightly unkind to us as it rained/sleet/snow/strong winds all at once for the whole day. It was especially windy on our trail walk to Dunnotar Castle which was closed due to adverse weather conditions. The castle was precariously perched atop jagged cliffs, bordering the very fierce North Sea, and the winds nearly blew all of us off our feets! Luckily we were already in our thick waterproofs so at least we were comfy. And the company of the other three was what was most important. We drove to Stonehaven with every intention of trying out the Scottish invention of a fried Mars bar but when we got to the place, it was closed! Maybe we should have looked up opening times for the shop....
 ^^Look! A magical frozen forest!^^

Being really adamant about wanting to ski that weekend, I again, got these guys out of bed at the crack of dawn and insisted on taking a drive out to the Cairngorms National Park, snowstorm and all, refreshing updates on the ski centre's social media accounts. The big snowstorm the previous night had settled, making the conditions for skiing very ideal. We're talking about the sun being out... and 15 inches of fresh, virgin, powder snow!

Oh yes! Unlike myself, these other three clowns had never been skiing before. I was so excited getting onto the slopes that I forgot that they probably needed to get a hang of staying upright on the skiis and maybe just the basics on how to stop/slow down before actually taking them up one of the red slopes..... oops!
Taking into consideration how little things went in our favour this trip, I had loads of fun but I still did not get to fully satisfy my itch for skiing. I wonder if I can convince anyone to go on another adhoc skit trip with me soon! The best trips are usually the ones you dont plan. Hey, you only live once right? YOLO!
