Lets review;
The series basically revolves around the lives of rich and famous young adults growing up in New York's Upper East Side voiced through an all-knowing yet unseen characrter, through posts on her blog; Gossip Girl. Typical storylines of sex, drugs, relationship issues etc. What I anticipated most about it was the fact that it was produced by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. The same twosome who produced The OC!!! No surprise why it was branded 'The New OC by People's Magazine then! and since OC-fever hit me hard the first time round, I couldnt wait to see whether they can come up with anything better!
I wasnt disappointed.
I cant help but notice however, the uncanny resemblance between the main characters of the two series.
Take for instance, Serena van der Woodsen and Marissa cooper.
The IT girls of their respective shows, they have it all from having a party girl reputation, dark family secrets and sexually active lifestyle. But Marissa one-ups Serena by not having a history of BFF betrayal.Gossip Girl, zero. The OC, One.
Then we have the BFF's. Blair Waldorf and Summer Roberts.
Both, seem to be the Queen bees, wears designer clothes and have riches to their names BUT what Blair doesnt have is the loyal following to her BFF. And she can be kinda a bitch sometimes.

Next up, the outcasts of society, Mr Dan Humphrey and Mr. Seth Cohen.
They both have obsessions with their childhood heartthrobs, but their admirers are oblivious to the fact that they even exist. Dan does come out top over a dorky looking Seth and his comic book conventions. However, the latter does have an advantage being it having a wicked sense of humour, irony and sarcasm.Its all even on this one. So, GG 1. OC 3.
Lastly, its the heroes of the show, Nathaniel Archibald and Ryan Atwood.
The crown prince of The Upper East Side, Nate is the guy who you could say, has it all but doesnt know what he wants. He may be the polar opposite of the poor Ryan but they do share one thing in common: women. Nate tops this battle having handsomely good looks and gorgeous blue eyes and lacking the hotheadedness of his OC compatriot.GG 2. OC 3.
So tallying up the marks, it was a close battle between the two where The OC comes out best! yeayyy! :)

all that is so true, but you forgot all about the blair-wannabe, jenny, and the underaged villain chuck. let's play fair,it's at least a tie. of course that so far the OC comes out best, they had so many seasons and gg only 18 ep...
yeahhh. i just took the most apparent characters. i couldnt compare jenny and chuck with anyone from the OC. although Rufus Humphrey is very much like Sandy Cohen.
And I do admit that GG does still have a long way to go before this poll can be FAIRLY judged. :)
Dan over Seth?! Ok, back up! Nate over Ryan I can handle, and I actually prefer Serena to Marissa, but whatever...
But in what alternate reality is Dan Humphrey better than Seth Cohen?!

well i prefer gg.. and i dont know if you notice of this..but the most of the series there are a blondie, brunette, the usual pretty blonde guy, the good one & the villian, etc... seee yaa =)
omg. the oc beats gg so badly. marissa has soo much more drama in her life, summer is funnier, cuter, and nicer, seth is just so cute and hilarious. ryan is uglier than nate, but he has so much more character. and all the other characters in the oc like julie, kirsten, and sandy would also make the oc SO much better.
i like both shows, but the oc is definitely better. like marissa has a much more dramatic life and she had a way harder time than serena. summer is so lovable because shes so cute, funny, and nice. Seth is the most adorable thing on earth with his sarcasm, humor, and his cute obsession with summer. ryan has more character, although nate is much hotter. and there are so many other cool characters like julie cooper, kirten and sandy that gossip girl cant copy. i dont want to sound like a hater of gossip girl its just that i LOVE the oc too much. :)

I totally agree with you, the OC will forever be the best show, though GG qualify as a nice replacement. (would of course rather have more OC, but replacement since the OC got cut)
I just thought you could have maybe compared Jenny and "baby-cooper", Katlin that is..:)

I think you're wrong. The fact that Serena and Blais have a firennemy relationship AND the fact that Blais is a bitch AND the Chuck and Blair drama-filled couple...are actually GOOD things. They make the show a billion times more interesting (and less boring *cough*OC*cough*);). So instead of taking AWAY points for these things, you should've added points. Making GG the clear winner! :D

OC is boring as hellllllllll because of the boring cast. I tried watching it in the past but it's seriously not dramatic or fun. And the actresses are soooo bad especially Mischa Shapless Legs Barton! She can't freaking act. And that Summer girl overacts so much it's not interesting to watch this horrible actresses on screen sorry. GG is more believable because the actresses are better and get you involved in the movie. Plus the scripts are more dramatic and classy and the music is waaaay better. Anyways, Blair owns Summer by faaaaaaaar and Chuck owns the entire OC cast <3.

yeah newbie! Kirsten is sooo like lily. But i love lily's adventurous past rather than Kirsten's drunk past.
anyway, Im a true OC fan, I just started being a GG fan, but i must admit it feels like im watching OC all over again, in NY! lol... both are good shows. and i love the addition of CHucK BAsS! I never thought I'd like him since the pilot episode totally made it clear he's a bad guy, but turned out the sweetest thing.
Nate or ryan-- I dont like nate, he's handsome alright but I think the story ruined him esp the part that he had an affair with a married woman for money!
Seth or Dan... I'd go for seth all the way! he's a dork but he's funny and full of life, u just gotta love him, unlike dan who ended up having an affair with georgina and his teacher? so minus for me.
Sandy or Rufus--> Sandy! i think..
blair or summer--> both!!! I prefer blair's fashion sense though.
marissa or serena--> i trully believe they're just one person in different bodies! their characters are photocopies.. except for the infidelity part in serena and the lesbian thing with marissa. =)

Sooo i just started to watch gossip girl now i just can't stop to see it !! I saw oc but i didn't complete that season that marissa was lisbian and then "she died" and ryan was with that one i forgot her name!! So i don't know why oc is better than gg .. first she was with that girl than back in love with ryan sry with all the respect they ruined the show when i find out that she was L marissa and ryan had a perfect life together !!! And then marissa died and after few months ryan was dating her 'frienddddd' wow very nice oc keep it upppp :/ .. I have to go and see GG :D
I tried watching the OC, mostly for Seth (who btw makes my day every single time) but, I didn't like it as much as I LOVE GG! I mean, it's a lot more fun to watch! The stories are more dramatic and the lovers are way more ... I don't know! They give you the need to watch again, every episode! The OC didn't.
Don't get me wrong, I liked watching it sometimes, but only Seth and Summer were interesting to me.
I don't understand the tie though between Dan and Seth.. Dan?! Ugh! The whole serena-drama, and now he finds he's in love with his best friend, but he's not gonna do anything about it.. Seriously, it's disappointing. The guy should grow a pair and stop pretending he's something he's not.
Summer was perky and cute and with seth she was SO adorable... but there's something about Blair, you hate her and love her all at the same time! She is the craziest bitch ever, and she's great to watch! Leighton is an amazing actress!
I don't like the slutty Serena. There, I said it! I liked her with Nate.. All the angst and sexual tension.. Yay! But when she started with Tripp and Carter and when she left to be drunk all over Europe.. She lost me as a fan. Marissa had more depth, but I didn't like Mischa AT ALL! The girl can't act! At that point, I give my vote to Blake/Serena cause I know she'll get nicer and hopefully get a little sense!
I don't think OC beats GG , it's the other way around DEFINITELY !!! The OC was fine..
BUT COME ON, with Chuck Bass... There really isn't any competition. That's what the OC was missing.. The ultimate charming, hot, clever, witty bad boy with the most sexy voice you'll ever hear...
And now with his lovely romance with Blair...
